Before choosing a course, you can let them try out a real lesson here: with the same tutor, group and timetable they’d actually have. At the advertised price, with no obligation afterwards.
There’s a specific time, between the end of August and the first few weeks of term, when the question pops up in the class chat: "What sports do you let your kids do?". And perhaps you’ve already got three tabs open on your phone to compare courses, you’re doing the maths on how much it’ll cost you, and in the meantime you’re reminded of that time a course ended after just three lessons: tears in the changing room and a year’s salary paid for nothing.
When it comes to swimming, however, you’re less free to say "let’s give it a miss".
Because swimming isn’t football: it’s the only sport that might actually be of use to him one day. In Italy One in three children cannot swim, and knowing how to swim is one of those gifts that stay with you for life: every summer at the seaside, by the lake, on holiday with your cousins. That’s why this decision comes up again every September, even after a failed attempt.
The good news is: the problem was never your child.
And neither do you. At the Lido Azzurro in Varedo, we see hundreds of families come through every year (we’ve got a 4.2 out of 5 rating and over 1,000 reviews on Google, so we’ve had our fair share of tricky Saturday mornings too): The pattern of courses that end badly is always the same. And it can be avoided, if you know where to look.
When a child digs their heels in at the bath, our explanation is always the same: "They’re not ready." Or worse, at night: "I must have done something wrong.".
On parenting forums, the stories are all much the same: a course that started off full of enthusiasm, an instructor or a group that weren’t the right fit for your child, and after a few Saturdays, the desire to go to the swimming pool had vanished. Almost always, the place had been chosen in the same way we all choose them.
From a leaflet. In the dark.
Here’s how registration in the dark works: you pay for the year without having seen anything. You don’t know who the instructor will be, what the group is like, or how your child will get on in that pool with those people. If it’s a good fit, great. If it isn’t, the first experience gets off to a bad start, Saturdays turn into a battle, and A sluggish November: money lost, and a year’s wait before trying again.
And the following year, it’s back to square one, with a little more mistrust to overcome.
The question to ask, then, is not "Which is the best course?", but: How can I view the package before paying for a year? Well, there is an answer to that question.
What you see in the trial version is what you’ll get in October, January and May.
The trial lesson costs from 14.00 to 17.00 euros, depending on age (The exact table is below, just before the form.) You’ll know this before you even enter your email address.
The registration fee is payable only if you then enrol on the course. If the test doesn’t convince you, that’s the end of it: you’ve had a swim.
The test applies to all the courses in the programme: its purpose is precisely to help identify the right level for each person.
And there’s one thing that no other swimming pool in the area can offer you: if you’ve been to the lido this summer, Your son already knows this place. It’s the pool with the slide and the grassy area – the one where he spent the summer. On the first day of the course, he won’t be stepping into an unfamiliar environment with a stranger: he’ll be stepping into "his" pool, with something new to learn. Half of the first-day jitters disappear even before he puts on his swimming costume.
Because the real choice isn’t between one course and another: it’s whose care do you entrust your child to when in the water?. And you can only judge hands by watching them at work, not from a leaflet.
No, and that’s why ours is worth paying for.
It’s a sales gimmick: an hour packed with games led by the host on duty, where you don’t see the actual instructor, the actual group or the actual timetable. It’s free because it isn’t a lesson: It’s a leaflet in the water.
"Just enrol him for now, and we'll see" shifts all the risk onto you: if the match isn't right, you'll only find out once you've paid the annual instalment.
The one "to unlock it" costs three times as much and removes the very ingredient that persuades children aged between 4 and 10 to let themselves go: the other children. At that age, children learn by imitation and through play, not by being told.
You’re paying for the lesson, not for a commitment.
Courses for 2026/27 run from 14 September 2026 to 4 June 2027, with age groups for each age:
You arrange the dates and times directly with the administration office, depending on the schedule: that way, you can do the test the timetable you would actually follow during the year.
You must book and pay for the test in advance, so the spot on the water is truly yours.
With real details: what the instructor was like, what the group was like, what he said to you in the car on the way back.
"I’ve been going there since I was a child in the late 1980s [...] it has always been a leading swimming pool in Brianza, just as it remains today. Spacious and well-organised, but above all clean."
"I’m having a brilliant time [...] the staff and instructors are wonderful and always polite to everyone. The facilities are fantastic [...] clean and always tidy."
"The service is excellent, with lots of different courses on offer. The facility is excellent and well organised."
Un modulo, un minuto. Sarai ricontattato/a.
In June, at the last lesson of the year, there are two types of parents: those who film their child diving off the pool edge and those who have promised themselves they’ll enrol them "next year". The difference, almost always, is una lezione di prova prenotata invece che rimandata.
